Mediation Process
Mediation offers a solution focused and transformative approach to resolving conflicts and is typically needed when there is a strong resistance or impasse on behalf of the parties involved, when the conflict goes beyond the skills or abilities of those involved, when the parties are too close to the problem, or when one side or the other is determined to keep the conflict going.
Mediation is an economical way to resolve conflicts, saving priceless time and money while avoiding litigation or damaging long-term relationships. Mediation typically resolves over 90% of conflicts through this voluntary process.
The Process – What to Expect
- Identifying specific problems that need to be resolved
- Agreeing to work for mutual benefit of all involved
- Surfacing and resolving the emotional issues
- Guiding the communications through difficult topics
- Bringing out common interests
- Presenting options
- Developing solutions and collaborative problem solving
- Designing workable and sustainable agreements
The length of time required for mediation is dependent on the willingness of the parties and the complexity of the disputes. We work collaboratively with and provide resources and referrals to meet the needs for our clients including but not limited to legal, financial, psychological, and social services. |
